The Consortium for Research on Early Childhood Development and Education (CORE) welcomed Ms. Yuri Belfali, Head of the Early Childhood and Schools Division of the Directorate for Education and Skills at the OECD, to the Faculty of Education at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) on 3 February 2026.
The visit was coordinated by the Research and Test Development Section of the Hong Kong Education Bureau. Ms. Belfali was accompanied by government representatives, including Education Officers Ms. Anita Chan and Ms. Nicole Fung, and Senior Professional Development Officer Ms. Aly Lee.
On behalf of the CORE, the Deputy Director, Dr. Diana Lee, together with the CORE members Professor Stephanie Chan, Professor Carrie Lau, Dr. Lilian Chau, and Dr. Rhoda Wang, led a dedicated sharing session on teacher training and development in Hong Kong. Using the Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Special Education programmes as illustrations, the team presented how the Faculty nurtures students to become lifelong learners through curriculum design and pedagogical practice.
The CORE team also showcased the Faculty’s facilities supporting teacher training, including the sensory room and the one-way mirror observation classroom.
Throughout the visit, Ms. Belfali engaged in insightful discussions with the CORE members on the development of teacher training in Hong Kong. The CORE looks forward to continued exchange and future collaboration with Ms. Belfaliand and the OECD.
